Doggy Books

On occasion we are approached by publishers to give a review of a new doggy book that's being launched. In addition, we do tend to be given the odd book from friends and family who know Mum is dog-mad and also a book worm - see our thoughts on these publications...

Emergency First Aid for DogsEmergency First Aid for Dogs : I love the idea of having a book on hand to refer to when Rags is poorly, a bit like a medical dictionary for dogs. This book is a good start . Click here to see what we thought about this book...

Dog Speak = Christiane BlenskiDog Speak by Christiane Blenski : A brilliant and well illustrated book which helps you understand what your dog is trying to say both to you and to other dogs. Easy to follow and fascinating to read I would say that this is a 'must have' for any dog owner or person who has small children who are nervous of dogs. Bitch of the Year by Andrew DilgerBitch of the Year by Andrew Dilger : All about a couple who decide to take on a retired ex-chamption racing greyhound, with all the relative challenges that this involves. Plus you have a chap organising a wedding to boot, very rare, with the finale being the greyhound taking an active role in the big day. Click here to see what we thought about this book...

Dieting with my dog - Peggy FrezonDieting With My Dog by Peggy Frezon : A story of one overweight woman and her chubby Spaniel, struggling to get fit together. The story is based on a woman struggling with 'empty-nest' syndrome and an inability to stop stuffing M&M's into her mouth, who doesn't exercise her dog very much. A bit like a self-help book - perhaps I am just too cynical but I felt this one missed somewhat. Click here to see what we thought about this book...

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth SteinThe Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein : I loved this book, which is pure fiction, about Enzo the dog and how he helps fix a family. A really good read if you love dogs and also have an interest in Formula One Racing. Plus this book is different in that it is written as if the dog is telling the story, giving an insight into how dogs must think. Click here to see what we thought about this book...

Until Tuesday by Luis Carlos MontalvanUntil Tuesday by Luis Carlos Montalvan : Along the lines of Pen Farthing's book below, this book is a true story about an American War Veteran and his service dog Tuesday. A story of struggle and the overcoming of adversity - in particular Post Traumatic stress syndrome. Gives quite a glimpse into how War Vets are treated when the war is over. Going RawrGoing Rawr! Dog Lover's Compendium : A complete guide to putting your dog on a raw food diet. This diet claims many benefits and the book is very informative, however, I remember my brother putting his Dalmation on a veggie diet when he himself decided to turn vegetarian - the botty burps (from both man and dog) were truly evil! Luckily the book also guides you on how to avoid a windy problem! Click here to see what we thought about this book...

A Dogs Life by Martin ClunesOne Dog at a Time by Pen Farthing : A wonderful true story of the Royal Marine out in Afghanistan who not only gives us a glimpse of what it's like for our boys fighting the Taliban, but who also tells the story of how he got caught up with the local dogs. We were delighted when Ebury Press approached us to review this book for them. Click here to see what we thought about this book...

A Dogs Life by Martin ClunesA Dogs Life by Martin Clunes: Being of an age that remembers Men Behaving Badly fondly - Mum has always been a bit of a 'Clunesy' fan - however, we have tried very hard not to let that influence our opinion about his book. We also watched the recent television programme A Man and His Dogs which we all enjoyed - I particularly liked the howling wolves, and promptly joined in with the singing. We were delighted when Hodder and Stoughton approached us to review this book for them. Click here to see what we thought about this book...
